Тема: Эльфы и топоры

В одном трэде Оружейной комнаты мне сказали что в Гондолине был отряд эльфов, использовавших топоры, а не мечи в бою. Прошу подтвердить или опровергнуть это утверждение, приведя цитаты и аргументы.
_{Это очень важно для меня, как эльфа, предпочитающего одноручные, парные топоры. Хотя, замечу, и мечи я очень люблю.}

Маэгнар, не доверяете? Правильно делаете! Но вот еще цитата:
"Again silently they passed the gate, and saw in the court beyond a yet greater company of guards in mail that glowed like dull fire; and the blades of their axes were red. Of the kindred of the Sindar of Nevrast for the most part were those that held this gate."
Здесь, кстати, ИМХО содержится намек на то, что топоры они позаимствовали у Синдар. "И это кажется разумным".

К всему сказанному выше можно добавить, что в Сильмариллионе неоднократно упомянуты топоры как у нолдор так и у синдар (хотя и не в Гондолине):
